Today I was interacting with Principals of CBSE Schools at National University of Educational Planning and Administration. Teaching profession in India is not a very paying one. Men have been largely driven out of the profession as they find the pay is so low that maintaining decent standard of living for the family is difficult. I learnt from the Principals that a few schools have now reserved few seats for Men Teachers. Even then they are not able to fill those posts.
I find the Managements of Private Schools advertising in the appointment Ads that the payscales will be Government Payscales or UGC Payscales. Have you ever seen a Private Industrial Organization saying that we will follow Government Payscales? It is in fact ridiculous. Private sector pays far higher than the Government. I think in due course private eduacational institutions will have to follow the Private Industry practices and start offering better pay than the Government Educational Institutions. Already you are seeing this happening at Management Institutes like Indian School for Busines, Hyderabad. I wish this trend catches on.
